Drummers' Concert - Sunday 16th December 2012

Dear All

As we've been discussing over the last few weeks, we now have a date for the PS Drummers' Concert which will be SUNDAY 16TH DECEMBER 2012

Here is a link to some of the grooves that we have studied over the past few terms (many with video lessons)

Remember, this is YOUR gig - let me know any songs that you'd like to perform and I'll go over them (charting as needed) from next week and straight back after half term.

I will video these performances and put them up on this blog so that you can show all of your friends and family over the Christmas Break (22nd Dec - 7th Jan 2013).

Finally, if you feel that you may need a little more coaching on a 1-1 basis between now and the gig, feel free to call the shop 01920 460646 to book a private lesson with me on a Saturday.

Here's to a great night of drumming superstars!! I can't wait to see you all shine.

Drum Lessons through the Summer

Dear All

Just to let you know that I will be offering drum lessons (30 mins or 60 mins) through-out the summer (if we ever get one!) on Saturdays during the day - from 9:00am to 1pm.

I'll be based at the Ware shop but lessons can be scheduled for the Bishops Stortford shop by prior arrangement.

These lessons can be on a one-to-one basis, or a class basis if you all decide to book a lesson together. One-to-One lessons can be on an acoustic kit if you'd prefer or if you fancy going through tuning drums etc

Lessons can be booked through the shop on 01920 460646 or via e-mail at academy@playsomething.co.uk You can also contact me via Twitter, drop me a DM and I'll get the shop to call you back.

I will be posting up some video lessons, here during the Summer so keep popping back to check.

Have a great Summer,

With every best wish

Alex

Drum stuff Sale at Playsomething

Dear All

I never get involved with the retail side of PS as you know but .... They are selling off all of their drum stuff to make way for more studio space. That's all of the acoustic kits as well as the electronic kits.

I think they're also doing a silly deal on sticks so it might be worth stocking up .

Just thought I better let you all know

Rosanna Shuffle

So, here we are .... the famous Porcaro shuffle as played on 'Rosanna' by Toto (which you can find here on the PS Drums Spotify playlist).

This is the groove from the verse - it get's slightly more interesting for the chorus! Enjoy ...

Here is a video of Jeff Porcaro explaining and playing his shuffle. He also mentions the Bonham and Purdie Shuffles that we have already studied plus the 'Bo Diddley' rhythm as well - there's method to this madness I promise!!!!

16th Note Shuffle - Part 2

Ok, so this time we are continuing with the 16th note shuffle theme but varying the bass drum pattern. We have added a bass drum beat to the last shuffled 16th note triplet on beat 1.

Scroll up to part 3 above to see where this has all taken us!

16th Note Shuffle - Part 1

Hi everyone, this is part one of the 16th note triplet shuffle that we've looked at this week. If you remember back to last week's lesson we investigated the idea that 8th note triplets can be sub-divided again into 16th note triplets in the exactly the same way as 'regular' 8th and 16th notes. So, this time we are creating a shuffle but using 16th note triplets instead of 8th note triplets - by removing the 'middle' beat in each grouping of three.

Scroll up to part 2 to vary the bass drum pattern.

Chart Reading

Hi All, apologies for not getting things on to the blog recently - Overseeing the Diploma has taken alot of my time but I'm back!! Full force .....

OK ..... here's the chart from this week. Remember you do not need to be told what to play in every bar. A Drum chart gives you an idea of the groove for each section of the song and the bar or section lengths.

Enjoy !
